Breathing is a fast "vehicle" to teach that level of attention without thinking ....because breathing is the most automatic task.
Automatic tasks simplify mindfulness because they are low effort, which frees up your attention.
You can be mindful during other habitual actions like cleaning dishes, driving, sex, playing music, etc.
Being mindful means: you have to pay attention to everything you can related to that activity, but no extra thoughts.
When you practice it via Breathing, you can graduate to less automatic tasks.
Then.... Mindfulness itself becomes a habit.
